What are the popular types of kitchen sinks in Australia?

There are 4 main types of kitchen sinks that we fit into 95% of Australian households. The types are mixture of design and installation and include the following:

Undermount Sinks - These sinks are mounted under the kitchen bench top. They are the most popular type of Kitchen sink as not only do they look good, but they are also perfect for cleaning up kitchen mess. Crumbs and mess can be wiped directly from bench top to sink.

Flushmount Sinks - These sinks are mounted to sit flush to the kitchen bench top. This makes it easy to wipe crumbs and mess directly from bench top into the sink.

Topmount Sinks - These sinks are mounted from above the kitchen bench top. The lip of sink sits just about the kitchen bench top. For stainless steel sinks generally no more than 2 or 3mm. For stone sinks its generally about 10mm.

Farmhouse Sinks - Also known as Butler Sinks or Fireclay Sinks, these sinks are very popular. They have a distinct design and are suitable for more traditional or Hampton style homes. If you have ever watched Jamie Oliver, then pay attention to the sinks he uses. These are farmhouse sinks!

What are the popular bowl configurations of kitchen sinks in Australia?

There are 3 main types of sink bowl configurations in Australia. These include the following:

Single Bowl - As the title suggests, this configuration consists of 1 bowl. Our customers that install single bowl sinks generally have smaller kitchen space and smaller households.

Double Bowl - Again as the title suggests, this configuration consists of 2 bowls. Bowls are generally of equal proportions however can include designs of 1 and 1/4, 1 and 1/2, and 1 and 3/4. The 1/4 and 1/2 designs tend to suit customers with smaller to medium kitchen space. The 3/4 and equal proportion sinks tend to suit customers with bigger kitchen space and households.

Single or Double Bowl with Side Drainer - Sink designs with side drainers are perfect for drying dishes. They offer a practical solution for either small or large households. Generally, sinks with side drainers are topmount in design.

What are the most popular colours of kitchen sinks?

There are a small variety of colours that are extremely popular. The most part these include the following:

Stainless Steel Sinks - Stainless steel sinks are arguably the most popular finish. They offer a more traditional look and are at a reasonable price point for most Australian households. They offer durability and protection against rust which is an important consideration for those living close to a coastline.

Black Sinks – Second in line in terms of finish are black kitchen sinks. They have some powerful wow factor. Black sinks are extremely popular in newer homes with modern designs and are equally as popular in Hampton style homes that blend contrasting colours.

White Sinks – Third in line are white kitchen Sinks. These offer a clean look for most kitchens including kitchens that showcase modern, traditional and Hampton style designs. They are available with matte or gloss finishes.

Note: When opting for a sink with a coloured finish, we recommend going for a sink that is made from a granite or quartz composite. These offer maximum durability and colour protection. They also offer protection against rust and corrosion.
